History
Scott Haring is one of our "second generation" club members.
Scott's parents, John and Ellen Haring are active members in both the East Penn
Chapter and Jersey Late Greats Chapter. Scott was a member and officer of the
East Penn LGC Chapter through the early 90's. Scott attended Upper Pennsburg
High School and Penn State University before going to work in industrial sales.
He is currently residing in Dublin OH with his wife Suzanne and their 17-month-old
son, Jacob. He tells us there is another baby due in mid-May.
During his freshman year at Penn State, Scott's dad bought a 120k mile `64 SS
for $500. The Atlanta built sport coupe came with a non-original V8 that ran,
despite the fact that the block was cracked. The body mounts were surprisingly
solid, but there were a few holes in the floorboards and trunk. (Who would have
thought?) The build sheet was found glued to the inside of the rear armrest
panel. The plan was to slip in a 283 and use this as his "College Car." Well
those plans changed. By 1989, new fenders were prepped and the car was painted
in pieces by Ronnie Evans. A 327 was installed, along with rear seat belts,
and 4 way flashers. He's collected all the pieces for a rear speaker and a two
mile per hour increment speedometer from a 63 C.O.P.O 4dr sedan (police car)
that he plans to install someday. At one point Scott hoped to drive the car
to the 10th late great Chevy Convention in Orlando, but there were a few problems
yet to sort out. In 1992, he did drive it to the convention in Novi, MI and
again to Richmond in `93, Reading in `95, Charlotte in `96, and Youngstown in
`97.
Scott says he would like to organize a club junkyard run. Speaking of junkyards,
he has contributed over 100 documentation of Late Greats Chevys to the JLG Cowl
Tag project; many from yards in the mid west. That information has proved to
be very useful, as these are cars from plants that we don't see very often in
the NJ area.
One of his favorite automobile adventures was co-piloting Kent Weinstein's Highland
Green `59 flattop to the `94 LGC Convention in Kansas City.
