April 2008
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
I’m writing this on the first day of spring. It’s been
a sunny day but very windy. There have not been too many good days to get
those Late Greats out of the garage from the long winters rest. Believe
me, mine is one of them!
It’s never to cold or to rainy for our guys when they get the chance to
go to another junkyard. Yes, the toolboxes were dusted off and stocked up
with all the right stuff as the members headed to Pennsylvania for our Annual
Junkyard Run on March 14th and 15th. We had members as Far West as Ohio
and as far south from Maryland come this time. I was told everyone came
out with something in his hands. Jim Bussel said it was a good yard with
lots to see. Lou DiPietro said the guy was pleasant and good to deal with.
He found a power seat from an Oldsmobile. He saw an under the dash air conditioner
for a 66 impala which was really neat to see. Scott Harring did between
15 to 20 cowl tags. Mike took pictures and found a part or two. The Thackerays
walked around looking for Nova parts. Tom Merring found a tri-power air
cleaner. Verne Frantz found more cars for the documentation service. So
the word is out this was a good yard and it is definitely one to keep. So
stay tuned for the next run!
Please plan to attend the next meeting on April 13th. We will be voting
to reduce the membership dues to twenty-five dollars a year and we will
also vote on the 7on/5off business meetings. A meeting will be held (hopefully
a brief one) so we can go on with the Members Road Rally afterwards. Light
refreshments will be served during the meeting. We will part from the Bordentown
Community Center and drive to the Heightstown Advantage Auto Parts. This
is where the Rally will start. Hope to see you there.
I need to explain again the idea of the 7on 5off. A former member who moved
away months ago was reading over our web site and responded back to me of
his feelings of disappointment that we will no longer have the summertime
back yard meeting/picnic events. He said that was the best time he had attending
our meetings. I explained to him that we would have the events with a very
short business meeting if warranted. We already voted on having seminars
in the summer also. Hopefully now this is understood. I’m excited about
having my backyard meeting and the seminar I would love to have if I could
pull it all together.
Don’t forget to mark your calendars for May 17th, which is the date for
the Multi Club Picnic. Verne will be hosting his infamous car games with
prizes donated by Advanced Auto Parts. So please don’t forget your side
dish we asked you to bring along with your cooler filled with your favorite
beverage and the family for a day full of fun!
I would like to thank Jan Lucas and her students for the pastries at last
months meeting and to Mike Berry for supplying the Dunkin Donut Joe.
Have a good Spring, and I hope to see you on April 13th.
