PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
It’s the end of July as I write this message and what a month
it has been.
The month started with a road trip to Rocky Hill Connecticut for the Eckler’s
34th Annual Convention. On the morning of July 2nd Six cars and 15 family members
met in North Jersey for the ride north. Everyone made the trip with out incident
and enjoyed the next four days.
On July 3rd we did a planned tour to the town
of Essex. At 11:00am we boarded the Essex Steam Train for a 2 1/2 hour, narrated
journey beginning at the historic 1892 Essex Station. We rode through the countryside
aboard the vintage rails as we watched the sights through the windows. At Deep
River Landing we were escorted onto the Becky Thatcher riverboat for a 1 ¼
hour cruise along the Connecticut River –bursting with scenery and historic
sights such as the Gillette Castle, (built from 1914-1919) the Goodspeed Opera
House and other beautiful homes along the river. Upon Becky’s return to Deep
River Landing, the steam train welcomed us for the return trip back to Essex.
What a relaxing afternoon that was.
The convention went well despite the power
outage the hotel experienced the morning of the show and shine. They bought
coffee and donuts at D&D to the show field for everyone. The dance was fun,
got to mingle more, and even heard the good news a couple we have been friends
with for thirteen years are now engaged and a wedding is going to happen next
year. The band “ YesterDaze “ which I found out are from Belleville, New Jersey,
were entertaining and toward the end of the night, I somehow found myself hanging
out and dancing with the groupies that came with the band. (Her boyfriend is
the lead guitar player)
The awards were handled different this year; they weren’t
so drug out! Each class was done all the way through the years. It made the
awards more interesting. I know everyone walked away from the awards happy with
their scores. We all did well! The date had been announced for next year’s convention.
The Greater Chicago Classic Chevy Club, Eckler’s Chevy Classics Club and Worldwide
Camaro Club invite you to the 35th International Convention in Arlington Heights,
Illinois. The date has been changed to July 15th-19th and the host hotel is
the Sheraton Chicago Northwest.
On July 19th, we went to the Dennery’s house
for a backyard barbecue. This one is always a good one. Our very own Steve Calendra
entertained us and played music throughout the day. Dawn had different things
for the children to do all day long; like bubble, sand art, velvet marker art,
swimming, etc. I’m always amazed to find what’s new in John’s collection of
signs and things!
Al Bernotas has another fund raising outing for us on August
23rd. We have been asked to come back to Burlington Chevrolet to show our cars.
So if you would like to come hang out with us, bring your Chevy and your appetite.
They are going to feed us! It’s a relaxing time and only three hours.
In October,
we will be lead through the scenic sites of Bucks County; PA presented by the
Thackeray family. See more information later in this newsletter and e-mails
from Jim and Karen. Thank you Thackerays, this sounds like a good one!
Our next event is August 9th at Jim and Claudia’s home in East Windsor.
