December 2007
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
We had a very good turn out for our November meeting. The
Club is back on our winter schedule and meeting on the second Sunday of the
month at the Bordentown Community Center. Thank you !!! Al Bernotas for making
it possible for the club to utilize this facility.
So, how is the Jersey Late Greats doing with the E-Newsletter?
So far everyone I’ve talked with thinks it’s working very well. As of yet we
do not have all the numbers in to see exactly how much money the club has saved
by switching to the electronic newsletter, however a good approximation is we
save about $55.00 every month. I will be working with Verne to have a full report
by the December meeting.
The club has decided to try another location for our Annual
Banquet this year. Dawn Dennery has looked into a couple of new locations and
the Membership had a good discussion at the November meeting. We talked about
finding a nice, affordable place, with first floor access,
(or an elevator), and scheduling the Banquet for late February.
Well, Dawn went right to work, and found a great location
for this year’s Annual Banquet.
So, mark you calendars now, this is a banquet you will not
want to miss! Dawn will be bringing additional information to the December meeting
at Bordentown. We will be deciding menu options and a couple of other details.
Additional information on this year’s banquet is in this newsletter, and all
the details will be provided in next month’s newsletter.
This month’s meeting (December) will be a good meeting to
attend. Not only will the club be deciding on the final details for the banquet,
but we will also be voting in our 2008 Club Officers. Nominations are as follows:
President: Maureen Humphreys
Vice President: (Jim Thackeray / Jim Brussel)
Treasure: Verne Frantz
Secretary: Dawn Dennery
St. Arms: Al Bernotas
As Jim Thackeray said at the last meeting, “Vote for Jim for
Vice President”. I say, either way the club can’t lose, and I believe this will
be a strong leadership team for 2008.
Also at our last meeting we blocked out a rough Club Calendar
of Events for 2008. Please check the Club Calendar in this newsletter. The December
and January meetings are a good time to work on the details for the upcoming
year’s events. Please stay tuned during the next couple of months as the details
on next year’s events take shape. If you see a particular event that is of interest
to you, and you think you can help with, please don’t hesitate to volunteer.
Utilizing the talents of our Members and helping each other out is what makes
the club stronger.
On a personal note, I would like to thank the Club for allowing
me the privilege of leading the Jersey Late Greats as President during the last
few years. I don’t know if other Club Presidents experienced this or not, but
when I was voted into position, Members assumed I knew what was going on with
EVERYTHING.
Well, honestly that was not always the case. However, as a result of being President,
I got to meet a lot of Members because they had questions, and they thought
I was the person that could get them the answer. Anyway, what I can tell you
from this experience is that this club has a TON of Great people within its
membership. Some active - Some not so active - All have been a pleasure to meet
and get to know. Also, the officers that served the club during this time have
been second to none. Thank You Officers.
I know I speak for VP Tom Merring as well as myself, that
circumstances with work, additional travel, time, and responsibilities at home
make it a necessary choice to turn the responsibility of leading the club over
to a new team.
For my last Presidents Message, I would like to share with
you where the salutation “Enjoy the Ride” came from. Several years ago my Mom
and Dad shared a valuable life lesson with me. They said “They always viewed
life as a Journey in stead of a Destination”. I thought that was very wise and
good advice, so I try and look at life the same way and enjoy the ride as I
travel though life. Please continue to support the Club, and I look forward
to seeing you during the up-coming year.
It has been a tradition at the December meeting for Members to
bring Christmas Cookies and snacks for the refreshments. Hey, this is another
good reason to attend the December Meeting! Hope to see you there.
Enjoy the Ride,
JwLucas
