President’s Message

At last month’s meeting at the Bordentown Community Center, the club held a “pizza and movie” night. Unfortunately, it was cut short by a slight snafu… as there was only a VCR player and we had DVD’s. So we decided to convene at my house, order pizza and watch movies. One movie was about the restoration of the GM bus which was called the Futurliner that GM had built 12 of. It described the construction and the technology used in which to build them. People with specialized skills volunteered their services to help in the Futurliner’s restoration. It was really quite interesting. A few JLG members and I took the dollar tour (donation) of the bus when it was on display at the Carlisle swap meet last fall. One of the other movies was a medley of mostly 1950-60’s auto commercials. The commercials ran much longer than a usual commercial did, possibly for promotional purposes. These were airing while you were watching the Three Stooges when you came home from school.

Also at last month’s meeting, John Lucas made mention of a friend who’s in the process of liquidating approximately 60 years of car parts, tools, machinery, wall art and other garage related items. Some have made more than one trip to scour the 2 garages in order to satisfy their addiction for PARTS. You simply placed all of your PARTS in a pile and made an offer.

Some parts you may never use but they were just too good to pass up. It was a ‘win-win’ for everyone. Thanks go out to Pete Paduch from Schnecksville, PA.

By this time, you should have received your invitation to the Jersey Late Greats Banquet that’s being held on February 20th in Voorhees, New Jersey. If you haven’t already sent it, write the check while you’re reading the rest of your newsletter. This is always a great time! And don’t forget the Dennery Gag Awards which is always hilarious. Call John about a funny or embarrassing car situation that someone in the club had experienced. John will come up with the gag gift and the commentary to accompany it. There’s still time left.

The next terrific event coming up is the Junkyard Run to Leon’s in Culpeper, Virginia. Since the yard is open to 12:00 on Saturday, we’ll be at the yard at 8:00 Friday morning. Culpeper is approximately 5 hours from the Hightstown area, so some may opt to leave sometime on Thursday. Mike Berry the coordinator of this event and has a write-up with all the pertinent information in this newsletter.
