PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

One of the topics of discussion at our January membership meeting was the Sale of the Late Great Chevy Organization in Orlando Florida. If you haven’t heard, our parent organization, Late Great Chevy, has been sold to Eckler’s. The new company is:

Eckler’s Late Great Chevy
5140 South Washington Avenue
Titusville, Florida 32780.

Eckler’s is well known in the antique and classic car industry as an aftermarket supplier of Corvette parts. Several years ago the Eckler’s company purchased Classic Chevy International and expanded their coverage to include 1955 to 1957 Chevy’s. Eckler’s recent purchase of Late Great Chevy represents another expansion to cover 1958 to 1972 Chevy’s.

As a Local Chapter of the former Late Great Chevy organization, we are faced with the question “What does this mean to us?” We spent some time talking about this at the January meeting, and there are probably more questions than answers at this time. We decided that as a start we must determine if our chapter can still purchase the club insurance through the new National organization.

I called Bob Snowden the next day, and I am pleased to report that the new Eckler’s Late Great Chevy will continue to support the Local Chapter program, including the insurance. Bob agreed to send the new insurance forms, and I will complete and mail them to National before our February meeting. Bob also told me that one of his primary responsibilities at Eckler’s would be to manage the Local Chapter network. This is Very Good News for the Jersey Late Greats. I am confident that Bob will continue to provide Local Chapters with the benefits we have received in the past, and possibly additional benefits as we proceed into the new year.

It was agreed the other questions discussed at the meeting were not as urgent as the insurance. As we continue into 2006, we can continue to gather information from National and determine if and how it may affect our Local Chapter. Basically, the Jersey Late Greats can continue to function as we have in the past, and address issues with National as they arise.

Okay, now for some REALLY EXCITING NEWS !!! Our Junk Yard Committee has discovered a new location for this year’s Junk Yard Run. Mike Berry, Lou DiPietro and I did a preliminary inspection of the yard and discovered that there is “Still Some Ole Gold In Them Thar Hills Of Pennsylvania”. So mark your calendar for Friday Night March 24 and Saturday March 25 for this year’s Junk Yard Run.

Mike and Lou found a Motel not far from the yard. And even better yet, there is a Restaurant and Bar directly next door to the Motel. That’s right, walking distance! No need to drive anywhere Friday night. I know I don’t have to explain how important that is. Call Mike Berry for more information.

Be sure to mark your calendar for the Jersey Late Greats Annual Banquet being held Saturday Night February 18, 2006. The Banquet will be held at Wildflowers Too Restaurant again this year and the cost is $25.00 per person. Please fill out the Banquet coupon in this newsletter and mail it with your check to Al Bernotas, or bring it with you to the February meeting.

Several members have requested a copy, or an extra copy of the Chevy Times Magazine featuring the Princeton Convention. I will continue to bring the extra copies with me to the monthly meetings and club functions. If you haven’t seen this magazine, you should make it a point to get your copy. The write up and photos of the Princeton Convention hosted by the Jersey Late Greats is exceptional. Get them while they last.

Remember:

1. Call Mike Berry about the Junk Yard Run.

2. Make your reservation for the Jersey Late Greats Annual Banquet with Al Bernotas.

Enjoy the Ride,

JwLucas
