February 2008

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

I made it through my first meeting as President. I would like to thank John Lucas, Tom Merring and Verne Frantz for their help in making the transition go so smoothly.
The 2007 and 2008 board met at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday January 6th to discuss our 2008 calendar and officially hand over all duties of Jersey Late Greats from John Lucas to myself. Most of the items that we discussed were talked about at the January meeting. Please read over the meeting minutes inside for more information!
Things are happening for the good of the club. A very in-depth discussion was held after looking over the 2008 budget at the January meeting to reduce our dues for 2008. We will be voting to reduce the dues to $25.00 in April. We will be running information on this for the next two months. The bylaws and our club membership flyer will be changed to reflect this shortly after that time. This is very good news for the club. I would hope the reduction of dues will bring back some of our old friends. We miss them and hope they will return to enjoy the hobby of the Late Greats as we do.

Another item that will be voted on in April is to do away with summertime meetings. As our past Presidents have found, it is very hard to get everyone together to hold a meeting at our summer picnics. So now we will just enjoy the fellowship and the Chevrolet hobby. If there comes a time that business needs to be addressed, a brief meeting will be held.

The 2008 calendar is just about full. Some loose ends for September and October should be finalized by our next meeting. An idea for September and October is a Bucks County tour of covered bridges and museums, and a fall foliage run in the Poconos.

The members voted to have a muti-club picnic again for 2008. The Mercer County Park Rec Committee raised the price of the park from $175.00 to $250.00. The members voted to absorb the cost this year and will look into this next fall to move to another park for spring 2009.

We are looking for an idea for fund-raisers. Al Bernotas has an idea of showing our cars at local Chevrolet dealerships for a price. He will be looking into this further. If you have an idea please email me. I personally would like to see the white elephant auction return to the winter meetings. I will call GM to see if I can get some items to auction off.

Inside this newsletter, please find the information on our 2008 awards banquet. If you have any ideas for the Dennery Awards, please contact John or Dawn ASAP. Dawn will be sending out a self stamped return envelope to all members. Please mail your RSVP with payment and send back to Dawn quickly. I hope to see more of you on Feb 23rd. This is one of the nicest events put on by our club.

Please enjoy the rest of the winter. Leigh and I will be sunbathing in the Caribbean (much needed) until the end of January.
