President’s Message
Dear JLG Club Members,
Thank you for the opportunity to serve as President of the Jersey
Late Greats for 2016. I look forward to working with the other newly elected
board members: Bob Kane, Vice Present, Verne Frantz, Treasurer, and Al Bernotas,
Sergeant at Arms. We have two volunteers as well as Diane Di Pietro, that will
assume the secretarial duties temporarily, but we still need someone to take
over as permanent Secretary.
I would like to thank the 2015 board members, Lydia Schmidt, Ted Gerlach, Sharon
Danfield, Verne Frantz and Al Bernotas for the great job they did in leading
the club. I would also like to thank the club members for their continued effort
and support to make JLG great. A special thanks goes out to Dawn and John Dennery,
for making the annual banquet the wonderful event that it is. Also coming to
mind is Mike Berry and the Thackery’s Lydia championed an excellent holiday
buffet. There was something for everyone, from appetizers to desserts. I am
sure that no one went hungry. A big “thank you” goes to Lydia and to everyone
who provided the food.
At the board meeting prior to the holiday buffet, Dawn Dennery announced that
the Ramblewood Country Club would be under construction in February, so our
annual banquet needed to be postponed. April 9, 2016 is the new date that was
discussed and selected. Additional details will be coming from Dawn. It was
decided that the cost of the banquet would be a maximum of $25.00 for members
and their guests. Any cost over that would be subsidized by the club.
A very important discussion took place regarding the number of meetings the
club should have per year. Lydia suggested that we have only two, due to low
attendance. The member poll indicated that the calendar remain the same. Mike
Berry felt that two things increase attendance, food and parts. Going forward,
we will try to offer a variety of events in conjunction with the monthly board
meetings and additional club events.
This is no easy task, but it is doable. I asked Mike Berry and he accepted to
be Events Coordinator – Thank you. Last Year’s “Battery Plus” presentation,
arranged by Maureen and Leigh, was well attended. This is the type of event
or tech session that members indicated that they want. I guess it is the warmer
weather that prompted Tom Merring to volunteer to do a tech session on air conditioning.
We will need suggestions from everyone as to what they would like to see. Going
forward, our location for the board meetings might be changing to a breakfast,
lunch, or at an event, as this is what the members wanted.
This is your club and as members you have a say in its direction. Your board
for 2016 is listening. We need your input on what you would like to see us do.
We also need volunteers to help make the events happen.
I would like to personally wish all members and their families a Very Happy,
but most importantly Healthy New Year.
Frank
