July 2007
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
I hope you are all enjoying your summer. The club began the
summer schedule last month with our first picnic meeting at Jim & Claudia’s
home in East Windsor New Jersey. The weather was great, the pool was open, and
Chef J.B. was grilling to order. Thanks go out to Jim & Claudia for opening
their home for the club. Everyone had a great time. Please check the Club Calendar
in this newsletter to find out when and where our summer picnic meetings are
being held.
During the meeting members discussed the advantages and disadvantages
of publishing an Electronic Newsletter. Some advantages of receiving your newsletter
via email include; color photos, being able to save a copy on your computer,
and the cost savings for the club. The obvious disadvantage is that not all
members have computers. It was discussed that members not able to receive email
would continue to receive the paper newsletter in the mail. All members present
at the June meeting thought it was a good idea, and the club should investigate
the Electronic Newsletter further. It was also discussed that not all members
are able to attend the meetings, and we need to get feedback from as many members
as we can. If you were unable to attend the June meeting, and would like to
voice your opinion about the Electronic Newsletter, please contact either Tom
Merring or myself and let us know what you think.
For the next two months the newsletter will be both MAILED
and EMAILED. This will be a trial run designed to allow you to see how you like
the Electronic Newsletter, and also allowus to determine if we have everyone’s
email address. So, if you don’t receive a copy of this newsletter via email,
please contact Mike Berry or myself because we probably don’t have your email
address.
Verne Frantz gave a status report on the Road Rally. Much
of the ground work has been completed. The flyers look fantastic and are ready
for distribution. Advertising the Road Rally is the way to make this year’s
event successful. The plan is to distribute the flyers at as many Car Shows
and Cruise Nights as we can. Lou DiPietro and Diane Wagner have the flyers.
If you know you are going to a car show or cruise night, please contact Lou
& Diane to get some flyers. You can also print a copy of the Road Rally
flyer from the Jersey Late Greats Web-Site and make your own copies for distribution.
Be sure to mark September 23, 2007 for the Road Rally on your calendars.
Also discussed were travel plans for those members planning
to attend the National Convention in Maryland July 4th to July 8th. If you are
attending the Convention and are interested in traveling in a Caravan with other
Jersey Late Greats Members, please contact Mike Berry. The remainder of the
meeting was spent working on the Club Calendar. Please note our August meeting
will be combined with the Shankweiler’s Drive-In Cruise. This has always been
a fun event, and with everyone’s busy schedules this summer it makes sense to
combine the meeting with the Drive-In Cruise. Please check the Calendar in this
newsletter for other scheduled events.
As you will notice, several of our events are “out of town”
and for most members that will require an over night stay at a Motel. The events
that come to mind are the Shankweiler’s Drive-In Cruise in Schnecksville Pennsylvania,
and the Lincoln Highway Tour, also in Pennsylvania. For these events please
note that it is YOUR responsibility to make your own Motel reservations. Motel
information (location, directions, and phone number) for these events will be
included in the newsletters, however the reservation is your responsibility.
Our next summer picnic meeting will be at John & Dawn Dennery’s. If you
haven’t been to a picnic meeting at John & Dawns, do yourself a favor and
get down to Gloucester New Jersey Saturday July 14. There is plenty of parking
in the back yard, and we always get a great turnout. I look forward to seeing
you at John & Dawn’s.
Enjoy the Ride,
Jw Lucas
