PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Its summer time and events are in full swing.
On June 7th our members met at Burlington Chevrolet in Burlington, New Jersey.
Al Bernotas made all the arrangements for this event. Jim Thackeray put his
Eagles awning up to keep the sun off of us; it was a very hot day. Thanks you
Jim! Dawn brought subs and chips for us to snack on; we had plenty to drink
and even desert. It was a good show of cars that day. I think we were all surprised
to who showed up. Ten of our cars plus two of the employee’s cars of Burlington
Chevrolet participated. This event was a fund-raiser for the club. I want to
Thank Al for not only the idea but for making everything work and for all who
took a beautiful Saturday afternoon out of their schedule to hang out. That’s
dedication!
On June 14th member’s met at our home in Carneys Point, New Jersey for the first
back yard barbecue of the season. This day too was very hot. Most hung out in
Leigh’s new garage where it was cool. I think that next year we will just set
up tables in there with a couple of big fans!
The day started with just hanging out and talking car stuff. Leigh fired up
the oil and cooked my so-called “famous fried chicken.” The grill was fired
up next for some burgers and dogs. It was so hot we blew up a small pool (since
my pool is a thing of the past) for the little ones to play in. It was meant
for the small kids, but one big kid tried it out, as you will see in the photos
inside.
We started a demonstration on stripes and flame painting by Egon Necelis. He
is the owner of Egon’s Body Shop here in Carneys Point New Jersey. Egon loves
the art of old school flames and showed our members his talent. He started with
a red 1970 Chevelle hood by tapping out SS hood stripes on half and painting
the strip black.
Next he taped up a black motorcycle gas tank with flames and used a method of
marbleizing with a House of Color’s purple and Glad Wrap for the marble look,
then a coat of clear. What a great looking affect he got when he was done. Egon
ended his demonstration with flames laid out on a fender showing a cross over
under method with a blending of colors and shadows with the results of flames
flowing under each another.
This ended a great day and we hope that everyone walked always with some knowledge
of stripes and flames. Egon did an outstanding job.
This month is a busy month for some of us. It’s convention time again. We will
be traveling together up to Rocky Hill, Connecticut from July 2nd-6th. We will
be hanging out at John and Dawn Dennery’s in Gloucester, New Jersey on the 19th.
This is always a great event with a good club turn out. Please don’t forget
to RSVP Dawn. This is very important so she can plan for this event. This meet
is worth coming to just to see what’s new in John’s collection! It must take
him half the week decorating his back yard with all his cool signs. The food
is always good and plenty to drink! Hope to see you there.
