March 2015
President’s Message
As I am writing this message I look outside at all the snow,
it’s hard to believe that “SPRING” is only 20 + days away. With temperatures
still in the low teens and below O degrees some evenings it’s very hard to feel
that Spring Fever is so close. Just when I thought last winter was a test of
our endurance along comes February 2015 in all its cold snowy glory. It is what
it is, somehow we all manage to get through it and carry on.
As the saying goes “Stay calm and carry on”. Reporting on our
February 21, 2015 club banquet, good to see many members even with the pending
storm scheduled for that day. It was a bit tedious driving home on the snow
filled roads, however I do believe everyone got home safely. It just took a
little longer, for me the 1 ½ hour ride took 3hrs due to the slow driving.
We all weathered the storm and had a great day. All I can say over and over
that Dawn and John Dennery do a fantastic job of planning a great time for everyone
to enjoy. It was over the top again. Big Thank you goes out to Dawn and John.
It was held at the Ramblewood Country Club in Mt Laurel. Food was delicious;
the accommodations were superb combined with the club members, who could make
it, made for a fun filled afternoon. Our very own “Music Man” Steve Colandra
was rolling out the music all afternoon. Also we had a guest performance by
our Secretary, Sharon Danfield who graciously sang a couple of songs for our
entertainment. Thank you Steve and Sharon. A dance floor was provided for anyone
to dance with their favorite partner. We missed some of our members who could
not attend like Verne Frantz, our Treasurer. He was home recuperating from Hip
Surgery. For those who were not in attendance you missed a great club event,
mark your calendars for next year, February 2016 and be sure to come and join
the fun. Thank you Dawn and John Dennery for taking this task on every year.
We all realize the time it takes to plan and organize a banquet affair and make
it as wonderful as you do. As president, at the Banquet I gave out special gifts
to outstanding members who contribute to making our club a success. I feel they
are all “Members of the Year 2014”. They are: John Lucas, our newsletter editor
who works very hard at getting it all together, Mike Berry, who makes our memory
lane with photo albums and slide shows, Al Bernotas, our Sergeant at arms, who
attends every meeting and makes sure the coffee, soda, snacks are all there
and ready for us as we arrive at the meetings, his reliability is outstanding.
Karen and Jim Thackeray for their much appreciated participation. Last but not
least Dawn and John Dennery, their willingness and dedication are superb. Jersey
Late Greats is thankful to have these members and their contributions. Thank
you. Look for pictures of our Banquet in the April 2015 Newsletter.
Next Monthly meeting is March 8, 2015 at the Bordentown Community
Center at 5 pm. Our junk yard run is scheduled for March 21, 2015 at “EZ Pull
and Save Auto Parts” near Hamburg, Pa. Reservations can still be made at the
Microtel Inn and Suites in Hamburg, Pa up until March 7, 2015. See more in the
attached February club minutes in this newsletter.
Before I close I wanted to Thank Mike Berry again for bringing
to our club membership a wonderful presentation of “The History of Diners” by
author Michael C. Gabriele. Mr. Gabriele was at our February 8, 2015 meeting,
presented The History of Diners in a slide show plus everyone could buy an autographed
copy of his book. It was very, very interesting. Many of our members had questions
for Mr. Gabriele which he answered gracefully. We presented Mr. Gabriele with
a gift to show our appreciation for his time. This took place at a very appropriate
facility “THE JERSEY DINER” in Dayton, New Jersey.
Check our calendar for 2015 for the schedule of upcoming events.
Stay warm and stay well ! See you all on March 8, 2015 meeting.
Bye For Now.
