By the time this News Letter reaches your doorstep, the Jersey Late Greats Road Rally will be a fond memory. Because I am writing this newsletter before the Rally, I can’t comment on the outcome, however I do know that Tom Merring and his team have done an outstanding job preparing for the Rally. If the weather cooperates we can expect a successful and fun event.
We had an unexpected surprise at our October meeting at the Bordentown Community Center. Mike Berry assumed the role of “President for the Day” and I understand he ran an excellent meeting. All the while I was patiently waiting on the shoulder of the N.E. Extension of the PA Turnpike for a Rollback. Yep … The 58 Impala broke down. I was fortunate to be able to pull off in a good position totally away from traffic. I was also fortunate to reach Elaine Igidio on her cell phone, who gave me Maureen’s cell phone number, so Maureen and I could discuss the meeting addenda. I understand the meeting went very well. Thanks go out to Mike, Elaine and Maureen for pulling things together at the last minute.
We have a 2007 Calendar of events blocked out, with a couple of good ideas for Tech Sessions for the upcoming year. We should have additional information on some of the 2007 Events at our next meeting. The October meeting also marked the beginning of nominations for Club Officers for 2007. Nominations can also be made at our November meeting at the Bordentown Community Center. So far this is what we have:
Nominations for 2007 Officers
President: John Lucas
Tom Merring
Vice Pres: John Lucas
Tom Merring
Jim Thakeray
Secretary: Maureen Humphreys
Treasurer: Ed Hayes
Rob Kane
Verne Frantz
Sgt. Arms: Mike Sutton
Al Bernotas
The club will vote for the 2007 officers at the December meeting. If you would like to run, or you know someone that would like to run for a 2007 position please attend the November meeting and get on the list.
The Jersey Late Greats is fortunate to have a great group of members that make this club a great club to be a member of. When everyone “chips in” it makes the club run more efficiently. It’s like driving your Late Great just after you did an oil change, tune up, and gave it a good wash and wax. It just feels good getting behind the wheel and going for a drive. Well, its kind of the same thing belonging to club that has so many members willing to help out.
You are all familiar with the officers sitting up front at
the meetings. Maureen is the fastest writer I know, she documents everything
at the meetings and makes sure we keep track of everything from meeting
to meeting. Ed Hayes does an extraordinary
job keeping track of the club treasury, and following up with dues and membership.
Lou DiPietro helps the meetings run smoothly and is always coming up with
new ideas for club activities. Tom Merring, does a great job of making sure
things stay on schedule and get done. If you want something done, give it
to Tom, he is like a Pit Bull because he will not let go until the job is
done.
Those are some of the people you know. You may not know about some other members working behind the scenes. Members like Rob Kane who labels and mails the newsletter every month. Mike Berry who assembles and edits the newsletter every month. Leigh Humphreys who designed and manages the club web site. Verne Frantz and Scott Haring managing the club documentation service and database. Maureen Humphreys who can charm any person or organization into donating items for club event goodie bags and door prizes. Members like Jim Brussel and Claudia, John and Dawn Dennery, Dave and Michelle McClain, and Leigh and Maureen Humphrey’s for hosting the club picnic meetings. Al Bernotas for securing the Bordentown Community Center, and being the first to arrive and last to leave for every meeting in Bordentown. Thank you.[
I’m sure I have probably missed somebody, however you get the idea. When the club is firing on all cylinders it’s really great. If there is something you would like to get involved with, just come to meeting and let us know. The club gets stronger every time that happens. Looking forward to seeing you at the 2006 Road Rally and the November meeting.
Enjoy the Ride,
JwLucas
