PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Last month I mentioned that the summer is over and there’s quite a few cruising days left. Perhaps I spoke too soon. If you were going on the Fall Foliage Run in Jim Thorpe, you probably could have used a set of studded snow tires. Remember them? Maybe it looked like a winter wonderland but no one was going to travel just to see snow and slush. Lou had sent a mass email Friday night indicating that the run was canceled due to the weather. Lou and Diane, my thanks for coordinating the event.

During the next meeting we’ll hold the final round in which to nominate someone for a position on the club board. Currently, the nominees are… myself for President, Jim Thackeray and Tom Merring for Vice President, Verne Frantz for Treasurer, Dawn Dennery for Secretary and last but not least, Al Bernotas for Sergeant at Arms. Remember, in order to vote, you had to have attended three meetings in the last 12 months. Events do not count as an attended meeting.

Also occurring at the November 8th meeting, is the final vote that will determine if the Jersey Late Greats will/will not become affiliated with the Nat’l Impala Association and not renewing our membership with the Eklers Corp. If this vote passes, it will automatically expand our years of intrest to 1970. The second motion that is to be voted upon is the further expansion of our years to 1972. If either vote passes, as mentioned at the last meeting, Don Bock has agreed to become our new Tech Representative supporting the years either 1965-1970 or 1972. Thanks Don! If we do become affiliated with the NIA, this will open the opportunity to significantly increase our membership with new people, new cars, new ideas… it can only be a good thing! This is probably the most important and significant vote the JLG’s will ever hold and if you want to voice your opinion, now is time.

In 2007, it was decided to modify our 2008 meeting schedule in which meetings would be held from October to April on a trial basis. At the end of ’08, we modified the schedule once again to include September. There are pros and cons to meeting 8 months out of the year. This is a topic that I want to discuss at the November meeting and come to closure on. I hope to see you there.
