October 2007
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Wow !!! September was an action packed month for the Jersey
Late Greats! We had Ol’Daze Drags, followed by our monthly meeting at Dave
& Michele McClain’s, the Lincoln Highway Tour, The Jersey Late Greats
Road Rally and Jim Thackray and Karen Tied the Knot! Check out some of the
pictures later in this newsletter.
Thanks to Dave and Michele for hosting the September meeting.
Our October meeting will be at Tom Merring’s place in Scenic Warren County.
The club has a Fall Foliage run and Pumpkin Picking Party planned. We will
have a short club meeting at Tom’s Garage. Please give Tom a call and let
him know if you are going to be able to attend.
The October meeting is the time of the year that we start
looking for nominations for next year’s club officers. If you are interested
in becoming a club officer, or know of someone in the club that you would
like to see helping run the show, please be sure to attend the October meeting,
and get your nominations in. Mike Berry will be heading up the nomination
committee again this year.
Tom attended the Ol’Daze Drags with his award winning 1960
elCamino, and you can read all about the Drags later in this newsletter.
The Lucas Family joined Mike Berry & Elaine Egidio and
Leigh & Maureen Humphrey’s for a very enjoyable weekend driving our
Late Greats though Lancaster County Pennsylvania for this years Lincoln
Highway Tour. The weather was perfect, and Lancaster is a beautiful area,
with lots to do and see. A highlight of the Tour this year was the Strausburg
Train Museum. It is the largest Train Museum in the world, and has over
100 Locomotives on display. Across the street was the Strausburg Train Station,
and our group rode on a restored train dating back to 1895. It was a beautiful
coach and the woodwork and craftsmanship was amazing. Not to mention the
thing still ran !!! The Lincoln Highway Tour was an educational and fun
trip this year. I am sure Mike Berry will have some great pictures to share
at the next meeting.
Okay … you have all been waiting to hear how this year’s
Jersey Late Greats Road Rally turned out. This year’s Road Rally was a great
success. We had GREAT weather this year, and plenty of Members came out
to help run this year’s event. Our Road Rally Chairman, Verne Frantz, did
an excellent job pulling everything together and managing the event this
year.We had a total of ten entrants (twenty people Driver & Co-Pilot).
The course ran about two hours and everyone had a great time. This year’s
First Place went to a Father & Daughter Team, Jim & Amelia Medley
with their redTriumph Spitfire. Despite a minor radiator cooling problem,
they managed to answer ALL the questions correctly and achieve the best
time. Congratulations, Great Job!
Actually, all entrants were winners this year, because our
club did an excellent job rounding up awards and door prizes. Check out
some of the pictures from this year’s Road Rally later in this newsletter.
A Special Thanks go out to this year’s sponsors Advanced
Auto Parts and Applebee’s Restaurant. In addition, I would like to personally
thank all of our Club Members that helped this year. From handing out Flyers
to working the stop watch. The club managed to “Get–er-done” this year.
Great Job Everyone.
This is our second electronic newsletter (or E-Newsletter).
We have been working hard to up-date our club information so that we have
everyone’s email address. If you received a printed September Newsletter,
and did not receive your Newsletter in an email sent to you. We would like
to hear from you. Please send an email to me or call. Let me know what your
email address is so we can get your E-Newsletter to you.
Well, that should do it for this month. We look forward to
seeing you at Tom’s Garage for the Fall Foliage Run and Pumpkin Picking
Party.
Enjoy the Ride
JwLucas
