PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

As summer draws to an end and autumn approaches, a few thoughts come to mind. First: This summer really flew by quickly. Second: How come I didn’t get more work done on the deck this summer? Third: Our Family had some great times this past summer.

Many of those good times involved car club events. I consider myself fortunate that the whole family enjoys the car club activities as much as I do. Our family enjoyed all the summer picnic meetings, the Delsea Drive In Cruise, and the trip in our 58 Impala to Minnesota for the Late Great Convention. Wow! What a summer. More on the Minnesota Late Great Chevy Convention in next month’s newsletter.

Leigh and Maureen Humphreys did a fantastic job hosting the August picnic meeting. Thanks Guys! Mike Sutton and his 60 Sedan Delivery get the long distance award for the August meeting. It’s good to see someone else is putting some miles on their Late Great Chevy besides me! Ha ha!
I know Tom Merring is kicking himself for not being able to make the picnic meeting at Leigh and Maureen’s. It would be so kool to see Tom’s 60 El Camino side by side with Mike’s 60 Sedan Delivery. Maybe Ol’Daze Drags at Island on September 10th!

Speaking of Ol’Daze Drags, look for details on that event later in this newsletter. Our September meeting and Ol’Daze Drags are both being held on September 10th. Dave and Michelle McClain have volunteered to host the September Jersey Late Greats meeting at their home. Dave and Michelle live about 15 – 20 minutes from Island Drag Strip. The plan is to have the members that want to attend the Ol’Daze Drags meet at the drag strip Sunday morning. After a fun filled day of screaming women and burning rubber at Ol’Daze Drags, the group will head over to the McClain’s. We will have a short meeting, and enjoy our last summer picnic for the 2006 season.

If you are not attending Ol’Daze Drags, figure on arriving at Dave and Michel’s between 2:00 and 3:00 PM. Please remember to call Dave or Michelle and let them know you are coming.

Okay, it’s time for me to drag out the old soapbox again. For some reason, a lot of members are forgetting to pay their dues on time. Please take a moment and look at the mailing label on this newsletter. Your anniversary date is in the upper right hand corner of the label and your annual dues should be paid by that date. The club has a system in place of mailing reminder cards if you miss your anniversary date. This of course is an additional cost to the club, not to mention a time consuming process for our club treasure. Our Treasure, Ed Hayes, does a great job keeping things organized and sending reminder cards and making follow up phone calls. Believe me this is a thank-less job. So let’s give Ed a break, and check to make sure we are paid up.

Enjoy the Ride,
JwLucass
