President’s Message

Sunday, May 19 was our club picnic. We were in a new location this year thanks to Leigh and Maureen Humphreys. We had our own reserved pavilion with electricity and parking right in front along with 2 barbecue grills. Big Al Bernotas built a wood and charcoal fire and he and Jimmy Thackeray handled all the cooking chores. Jim and Karen Thackeray took care of all the food, plates, utensils and condiments while members brought salads and desserts. There were members from New Jersey, Pennsylvania and a special visit from Jim Brussel all the way from Rhode Island in his ’64 SS en route to Colorado. John and Dawn Dennnery brought their beautiful green ’64 Biscayne. A nice surprise was Wayne Hertell drove his 1978 Monte Carlo to the picnic. Wayne is Lydia Schmidt’s brother. I’m sorry to say I didn’t get a photo of that car.

There were 3 ‘60’s, 4 ‘64’s and Wayne’s ’78 for a total of 8 old Chevys. A big thank - you to everyone who made this possible.

I went out to Spring Carlisle on Thursday. There was a bit of rain but nothing to worry about. I always have a good time out there. Things have changed over the years; there are fewer vendors now with a number of empty spaces, which certainly was not like that 5 years ago. I usually meet up with old friends and sometimes find some special stuff like the pair of NOS mufflers with factory welded head pipes. They had the original part number tags on them when eagle eye Jim Krous spotted them. I brought them home for $30.00!! They are now on my ’60 Kingswood with a pair on NOS resonators and some NOS hangers. Jim came home with an NOS Montgomery Wards Air Conditioner for mid ‘60’s Chevy small block complete with the original box and instructions. There were lots of Chevrolets for sale, some of which can be seen on the photo page; If you haven’t been there in awhile or if you’ve never gone before, go check it out. Breakfast and lunch at Stolfutz’ Pennsylvania Dutch concession stand is always a favorite with chicken corn chowder, shoo fly pie and their freshly made ham, cheese and egg breakfast sandwiches. part number tags on them when eagle eye Jim Krous spotted them. The Chevrolet Nationals at Carlisle are coming up on June 21 and 22 so plan to take a ride out and enjoy the show. It’s always a good time with lots of Chevy only vendors.

Don’t forget the National Impala Association Convention is coming up August 13 – 18 in St. Charles, IL. Let me know if you are planning to attend as there will probably be a caravan driving out.

Our next meeting/event is Saturday, June 8 at the Towne of Historic Smithville We can participate in the SPRING FLING car show if you choose to and we will have a short meeting at noon. The registration form and directions are in this newsletter. Please call Mike Berry if you are planning to attend.

Take it easy,

Mike
