Our September event incorporated some of my favorite things in this hobby, driving our old Chevys to somewhere new and visiting historic places. A big Thank You to Lydia Schmidt for setting this up. On Sunday September 8, we met in Hampton, NJ, just off Rt. 31. Lydia was there in her Roman Red ’60 convertible, Alan Bitterman had his ’60 Fawn Beige convertible and Lydia’s brother Wayne drove his black ’78 Monte Carlo. The Humphreys were in their motor home, my ’60 wasn’t running right and Big Al Bernotas arrived in his late model driver so we all hopped rides in the older cars. If I had brought my car there would have been 3 1960 convertibles! We drove down RT 57 where we encountered the “Concrete Mile”. Something I certainly wasn’t aware of, Thomas Edison had built a concrete plant up there and created the first concrete highway in 1912. We visited the Plane 9 Museum and had an excellent tour of the whole facility that include walking through a long, low stone tunnel. Next we went to the Bread Lock Museum for more history. We finished off the day with a meal at a nice restaurant. Thank you Lydia for putting this together for the club. It was a fun and educational day for everyone. Jim and Karen Thackeray have put together our Fall Foliage and Covered Bridge tour for October which should be an excellent family outing. Lets get our cars out and go cruising! There will be a short meeting where will have the first round of nominations for the 2020 Board. I am not running again next year so go ahead and throw your hat in the ring! Keep in mind that we will also need an Election Chairman.
I made an executive decision and changed our event for November. We were planning to attend the Swap Meet and Open House at the Classic Auto Mall in Morgantown, PA. (PA Turnpike Exit 298) on Sunday November 3 but I think the Riegelsville, PA Car Show will be better attended by our club members. I know several of the guys go to this show every year and really enjoy plus there is no registration fee! Please give me a call if you are planning to attend. We will be a short meeting there where we will have the final round of nominations for the 2020 Board.
And finally, December will be our always popular Christmas Party and elections so mark your calendars.
