Hello Jersey Late Greats members! By the time you read this
newsletter, this year’s Junk Yard Run will be but a fond memory. I hope everyone
had a great time and were able to find some good deals on parts this year. Yards
with cars from the 50’s and 60’s are becoming harder and harder to find. Mike
and Lou did a great job finding this yard and organizing this year’s event.
Keep up the good work guys!
Speaking of events, I received an email from Lou DiPietro
about the Delsea Drive In located in Vineland New Jersey. Last year we talked
about organizing a Drive In Cruise, however I think we ran out of time and the
Drive In closed for season before we could get it all together. I asked Lou
to bring his information to next month’s meeting so we can get this event planned
and marked on our calendar.
At last month’s meeting we began preliminary discussions on
the advantages and disadvantages of expanding the Jersey Late Greats to include
Chevrolets from 1958 to 1972. The idea was initiated because of the change in
the National organization’s structure. The National Late Great Chevy Club in
Titusville Florida recognizes 1958 to 1972 Chevrolets as Late Great Chevy’s.
The question becomes would it benefit our local chapter to expand to include
the same years as the national organization. Well … there was some very good
discussion on this matter. I asked everyone attending the meeting to think about
it during the month and bring back ideas and suggestions to this month’s meeting.
We also had the “March Model Madness” Tech Session at last
month’s meeting. Jim Thackeray and Mike Berry had a ton of models on display,
and shared some of their “Tricks of the Trade” on model building. It turns out
that Jim used to work in a hobby shop and has a lot of information on how to
build and detail model cars. Jim also demonstrated the art of applying metal
foil to simulate chrome trim.
Mike brought his spray booth, model rack for painting and
airbrush. After Mike gave a quick talk on the history of model building, he
explained how to paint the factory color on model kits, and where to get the
factory lacquer paints. They also had handout information on were to purchase
kits, paints, metal foil, and everything you need to build an authentic model.
All in all, it was a very interesting and informative presentation. Thanks go
to Jim and Mike for presenting “March Model Madness”.
If you have an idea for a Tech Session please let me know.
We will publish upcoming Tech Sessions in the newsletter, so stay tuned.
Enjoy the Ride,
JwLucas
